Hand-held tester:

- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER (OPERATE OCV)
- Connect a hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and turn the tester ON.
- Warm up the engine.
- On the tester, select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / VVT CTRL B1.
- Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the tester.
Standard:
TESTER OPERATION AND SPECIFIED CONDITIONSTester Operations Specified Conditions OCV OFF Normal engine speed OCV ON Engine idles roughly or stalls (soon after OCV switched from OFF to ON)
- OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
- NG: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY (OCV)
- Disconnect the C2 OCV connector.
- While idling, check the waveform between the terminals of the C2 OCV connector using an oscilloscope.
Standard:
TESTER OPERATION AND SPECIFIED CONDITIONSTester Connection Specified Condition OC1 + (C2-1) - OC1 - (C2-2) Correct waveform shown - Reconnect the OCV connector.
- OK: REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY
- NG: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT ECM (OCV SIGNAL)
- Inspect the ECM using an oscilloscope.
- While idling, check the waveform between the terminals of the E3 ECM connector.
Standard:
ECM (OCV SIGNAL) TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITIONSTester Connection Specified Condition OC1 + (E3-14) - OC1 - (E3-13) Correct waveform shown
- OK: REPLACE ECM (See ECM (1ZZ-FE/2ZZ-GE) REPLACEMENT )
- NG: GO TO NEXT STEP
