Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Check that the stop lamp comes on when the brake pedal is depressed and goes off when the brake pedal is released.

    HINT:

    Check the stop lamp bulb as it may have burnt out.

    Standard: Stop lamp switch function is normal. 

    NG: Go to step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (STP TERMINAL) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    SKID CONTROL ECU - VOLTAGE TABLE

    Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
    S1-20 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
    S1-20 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 4.0 V

    OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 

    NG: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LAMP SWITCH - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the stop lamp switch connector and skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    STOP LAMP SWITCH - SKID CONTROL ECU - RESISTANCE TABLE

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    S1-20 (STP) - S14-1 (STP) Below 1Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  

  4. INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the stop lamp switch assy connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    STOP LAMP SWITCH - RESISTANCE TABLE

    Switch Condition Tester Connection Specified Condition
    Switch pin free 1 - 2 Below 1Ω
    Switch pin pushed in 1 - 2 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LAMP CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the stop lamp switch connector and skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    STOP LAMP CIRCUIT - RESISTANCE TABLE

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    S1-20 (STP) - S14-1 (STP) Below 1Ω

    OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
