Inspection Procedure

  1. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs (See PRE-CHECK ).
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Are the same DTCs recorded? (See PRE-CHECK ).

    NO: REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 

    YES: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH 
    1. Remove the parking brake switch.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    PARKING BRAKE SWITCH - RESISTANCE TABLE

    Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
    P3-1 - Ground part Released Below 1 Ω
    P3-1 - Ground part Pushed in 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
    2. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector B2.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH - RESISTANCE TABLE

    Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
    (B2-1) - (B1-2) Float UP More than 10 kΩ
    (B2-1) - (B1-2) Float DOWN Less than 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT) 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the item "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light on the hand-held tester.
      ACTIVE TEST - REFERENCE TABLE

      Item Vehicle Condition / Test Details Diagnostic Note
      ABS WARN LIGHT Turns ABS warning light ON / OFF Observe combination meter
    4. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light are shown on the combination meter with the hand-held tester.

    Standard: 

    The BRAKE warning light is turned ON or OFF in accordance with the hand-held tester. 

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.
    2. Ground terminal EBDW of the skid control ECU.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    4. Check that the brake warning light goes off.

    Standard: 

    The light is turned ON or OFF in accordance with the connection of terminals GND and EBDW. 

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE ACTUATOR - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and the combination meter connector C8.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      BRAKE ACTUATOR - COMBINATION METER - RESISTANCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-12 (EBDW) - C8-3 Below 1 Ω
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    BRAKE ACTUATOR - COMBINATION METER - RESISTANCE TABLE

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    S1-12 (EBDW) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  )
