Front Seat ASSY: Overhaul

HINT:

• The installation procedures are the removal procedures in reverse order. However, only installation procedures requiring additional information are included.
• Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
• The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
• A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (SEE SPECIFIED TORQUE FOR STANDARD BOLTS ).

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
   CAUTION: Work must be started at least 90 seconds after the power switch is turned OFF and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. 
   (The SRS is equipped with a backup power source. If work is started within 90 seconds of turning the power switch OFF and disconnecting the battery's negative (-) terminal cable, the SRS may deploy.) 
2. REMOVE SEAT TRACK OUTER COVER LH 
   1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 3 claws and remove the outer cover.

   HINT:

   Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

3. REMOVE SEAT TRACK BRACKET COVER INNER LH 
   1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws and remove the bracket cover.

   HINT:

   Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

4. REMOVE FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSY 
5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSY 
   1. Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the rearmost position.
   2. Remove the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat.
   3. Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the foremost position.
   4. Remove the 2 bolts on the rear side of the seat.
   5. Disconnect the connectors under the seat. Then remove the front seat.
   NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body. 
6. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER RELEASE HANDLE LH 
   1. Raise the reclining adjuster release handle to reveal the claw. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and remove the release handle.

   HINT:

   Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

7. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LH 
   1. Remove the screw.
   2. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws and clip, and remove the cushion shield.

   HINT:

   Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

8. REMOVE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY LH 
   1. Disconnect the connectors.
   2. Remove the bolt and inner belt.

9. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD INNER LH 
   1. Remove the screw.
   2. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and clip, and remove the cushion shield.

   HINT:

   Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

10. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER 
    1. Passenger seat only:

       Disconnect the connector.

    2. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 5 hooks shown in the illustration under the seat.

       HINT:

       Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    3. Disengage the hooks and remove the 2 hog rings and seat cushion cover (with pad) from the seat adjuster.

    4. Remove the 6 hog rings and cushion cover from the cushion pad.

11. REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK COVER 
    1. Lift up the seatback cover and remove the 3 hog rings shown in the illustration.

    2. Remove the 3 hog rings shown in the illustration.

    3. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 hooks.

       HINT:

       Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    4. w/ Side airbag:

       Remove the nut and 2 seatback cover brackets.

    5. Roll up the seatback cover.
    6. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the 2 headrest supports.
    7. Remove the seatback cover (with pad) from the seat adjuster.

    8. Remove the 4 hog rings and seatback cover from the seatback pad.

12. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER RH (UPPER) 
    1. Remove the screw and cover.
13. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER LH (UPPER) 
    1. Remove the screw and cover.
14. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER RH (LOWER) 
    1. Remove the screw and cover.
15. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER LH (LOWER) 
    1. Remove the screw and cover.
16. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LOWER RH 
    1. Disengage the claw and cushion shield.
17. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LOWER LH 
    1. Disengage the claw and cushion shield.
18. Driver's seat only: 

    REMOVE SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR 

    1. Disconnect the wire harness connector.
    2. Disengage the claw and remove the seat slide position protector.
    3. Using a T30 Torx® socket wrench, remove the Torx® bolt and airbag sensor.
19. Driver's seat only: 

    INSTALL SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR 

    1. Install the seat position airbag sensor, but do not fully tighten it yet.

    2. Insert a 1 mm (0.04 in.) feeler gauge between the slide rail and sensor as shown in the illustration.

       HINT:

       Make sure that the clearance between the seat position airbag sensor and the slide rail is between 0.6 to 2.0 mm (0.023 to 0.079 in.)

       NOTE:

       • If the seat position airbag sensor has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or connector, replace the seat position airbag sensor with a new one. 
       • When installing the seat position airbag sensor, make sure that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts. 
    3. Hold down the top of the sensor and tighten the sensor with a T30 Torx® socket wrench.

       Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in..lbf) 

    4. Remove the feeler gauge.
    5. Install the seat slide position protector.
    6. Connect the wire harness connector.

20. INSTALL FRONT SEATBACK COVER 
    NOTE:

    • Be careful not to damage the cover. 
    • When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible. 
    1. Using hog ring pliers, install the seatback cover to the seatback pad with 4 new hog rings.
    2. Install the seatback cover (with pad) to the seat adjuster.
    3. Install the 2 headrest supports.
    4. w/ Side airbag:

       Fully cover the airbag with the 2 seatback cover brackets and tighten the nut.

       Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in..lbf) 

       NOTE:

       • For vehicles with side airbags, the seatback cover must be securely installed. If not, the side airbag may not deploy properly. 
       • Make sure that the strap is not twisted after installing the bracket. 
       • Install the bracket securely.

    5. Using hog ring pliers, attach a rubber with 3 new hog rings.
    6. Using hog ring pliers, install 3 new hog rings.

21. INSTALL FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER 
    NOTE:

    • Be careful not to damage the cover. 
    • When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible. 
    1. Using hog ring pliers, install the seat cushion cover to the seat cushion pad with 6 new hog rings.
    2. Install the seat cushion cover (with pad) to the seat adjuster using hog ring pliers to attach 2 new hog rings and hooks.
    3. Passenger seat only:

       Connect the connector.

22. INSTALL FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY LH 
    1. Install the inner belt with the bolt.

       Torque: 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) 

    2. Connect the connectors.
    3. Check that the inner seat belt moves smoothly.
23. INSTALL FRONT SEAT ASSY 
    1. Place the seat in the cabin.
       NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body. 
    2. Connect the connectors under the seat.
    3. Tighten the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat.

       Torque: 37 N.m (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf) 

    4. Tighten the 2 bolts on the rear side of the seat.

       Torque: 37 N.m (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf) 

24. CHECK SEAT SLIDE ADJUSTER LOCKS 
    1. During sliding operation of the front seat, check that the left and right adjusters move together smoothly and lock simultaneously.

       If the seat adjusters do not lock simultaneously, loosen the seat fixation bolts to adjust the adjuster's position.

25. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
26. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (SEE  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. 
27. CHECK SRS WARNING LAMP (SEE  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
