Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: If DTCs that are related to different systems are output simultaneously while terminal E2 is used as a ground terminal, terminal E2 may have an open circuit.
  1. Connect OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester, and read value of ATF temperature 

    PREPARATION:

    1. Warm up the engine.
    2. Turn the ignition switch off.
    3. Connect the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    5. Push the "ON" button of the OBD II scan tool or the hand-held tester.
    6. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST".
    7. According to the display on tester, read the "DATA LIST".

    CHECK:

    Read the ATF temperature.

    OK:

    DATA LIST ITEM REFERENCE

    NOTE: When DTC P0712 is output and OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester output is 150°C (302°F), there is a short circuit.

    Measure the resistance between OIL (THO) and body ground.

    MALFUNCTION REFERENCE

    Temperature Displayed Malfunction
    -40°C (-40°F) Open circuit (NG)
    150°C (302 °F) or more Short circuit (NG)
    1. OK: Check for intermittent problem (  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ). 
    2. NG : Go to next step 
  2. Check transmission wire (ATF temperature sensor). 

    PREPARATION:

    Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    CHECK:

    Measure the resistance between terminals OT and E2 of the transmission wire connector.

    OK:

    1. Resistance: 79 Ω to 156 kΩ 
    NOTE: Refer to the value(s) in the table below for resistance value change according to the ATF temperature.
    ATF TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

    Temperature: °C (°F) Resistance: kΩ
    10 (50) 6.4
    110 (230) 0.2

    CHECK:

    Measure the resistance between terminals body ground and OT, and body ground and E2 of the transmission wire connector respectively.

    OK:

    1. Resistance: 10 kΩ or higher 
    1. NG: Replace the transmission wire (ATF temperature sensor) (See  ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR  ). 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  3. Check harness and connector between ATF temperature sensor and ECM. 

    PREPARATION:

    1. Connect the transmission wire connector to the transaxle.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    CHECK:

    Measure the resistance between terminals OIL and E2 of the ECM connector.

    OK:

    1. Resistance: 79 Ω to 156 kΩ 

    CHECK:

    Measure the resistance between terminals body ground and OIL, and body ground and E2 of the ECM connector respectively.

    OK:

    1. Resistance: 10 kΩ or higher 
    1. NG: Repair or replace the harness or connector (  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ). 
    2. OK: Replace the ECM.
