Inspection Procedure

  1. SYSTEM CHECK 
    SYSTEM CHECK

    w/ABS, w/VSC A
    w/o ABS B
    1. B: Go to step   3 
    2. A: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL) 
    1. Operate the hand-held tester according to the steps on the display and select "DATA LIST".

      ABS: 

      DATA LIST (ABS)

      Item Measurement Item Range (Display) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      (FR/FL/RR/RL) Wheel Speed Vehicle speed/Min.: 0 km/h (0 mph),Max.: Almost same as actual speed (When driving)  

    OK: Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed. 

    1. NG: GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY 

    INSPECTING USING OSCILLOSCOPE 

    1. Check the input signal wave form.
      1. Remove the combination meter with connectors still connected.
      2. Connect the oscilloscope to terminal C9-9 and body ground.
      3. Start the engine.

      4. Check the signal wave form according to the condition) in the table below.
        SIGNAL WAVE FORM CONDITION

        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV, 20 ms/DIV
        Vehicle condition Driving at approx. 20 km/h (12 mph)

    OK: 

    As shown in the illustration 

    HINT:

    As vehicle speed increases, the cycle of the signal wave form narrows.

    1. B: Go to step 4 
    2. C: Go to step   8 
    3. D: Go to step   6 
    4. A: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  COMBINATION METER ASSY  ) 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY AND COMBINATION METER ASSY) (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the C9 and S1 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C9-9-Body ground Always 10 kΩ: or higher
      C9-9-S1-18 Always Below 1 Ω:

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  5. INSPECT BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (ABS) 
    1. Disconnect the S1 connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S1-18-Body ground Ignition switch ON 10 to 14 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S1-1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  COMBINATION METER ASSY  ) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (ABS) (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY AND COMBINATION METER ASSY) (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the C9 and S1 connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      C9-9 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C9-9-S1-18 Always Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  7. INSPECT ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (VSC) 
    1. Disconnect the S1 connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      S1-12-Body ground Ignition switch ON 10 to 14 V
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      S1-32-Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  COMBINATION METER ASSY  ) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (VSC) (SEE  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 

  8. INSPECT SPEEDOMETER SENSOR 
    1. Check voltage.
      1. Shift the shift lever to neutral.
      2. Jack up either of the front wheel.
      3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2 and 3 of speed sensor when the front wheel is turning slowly.

        Standard voltage: 

        Voltage is generated intermittently.

    1. NG: REPLACE SPEEDOMETER SENSOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SPEEDOMETER SENSOR CIRCUIT)
