Air Bag Sensor ASSY Center: Replacement

  1. PRECAUTION  
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag working.

  3. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  4. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  5. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  6. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX FRONT (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  7. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX DUCT NO.1 (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  8. REMOVE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSY CENTER 
    1. Disconnect the holder (with connectors) from the airbag sensor assy center.
    2. Remove the 3 bolts and the airbag sensor assy center.

  9. INSTALL AIR BAG SENSOR ASSY CENTER 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.
    2. Check that the battery negative (-) terminal is disconnected.
      CAUTION: After removing the terminal, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.
    3. Temporarily install the airbag sensor assy center with the 3 bolts.
      NOTE:
      • If the airbag sensor assy center has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or connector, replace it with a new one.
      • When installing the airbag sensor assy center, be careful that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and that it is not pinched between other parts.
    4. Tighten the 3 bolts to the specified torque.

      Torque: 17.5 N.m (179 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

    5. Check that there is no looseness in the installation parts of the airbag sensor assy center.
    6. Connect the holder (with connectors) to the airbag sensor assy center.
    7. Check that the waterproof sheet is properly set.
  10. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX DUCT NO.1 (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  11. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX FRONT (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  12. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  13. INSTALL CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  14. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  15. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  16. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (SEE  INITIALIZATION  ) 

    Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.

  17. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (SEE  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
