Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Toyota Tundra and 2005 Toyota Tundra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point CALIBRATION  .

HINT:

Start the inspection from step  1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step  3 when not using the hand-held tester.

  1. Check output value of the master cylinder pressure sensor.

    PREPARATION:

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Select DATA LIST mode on the hand-held tester.

    CHECK:

Check that the master cylinder pressure value of the master cylinder pressure sensor displayed on the handheld tester changes when depressing the brake pedal.

    RESULT:

    RESULT

Master cylinder pressure sensor value becomes normal A
Master cylinder pressure sensor value changes but it is not normal B
Master cylinder pressure sensor value does not change C
    1. B: Go to step   3 .
    2. C : Replace master cylinder solenoid (See  DISASSEMBLY  ).
    3. A: Go to next step.
  2. Reconfirm DTC (See  DTC CHECK / CLEAR   ).

    PREPARATION:

    Clear the DTC.

    CHECK:

Check if the same DTC is detected.

    RESULT:

    DTC OUTPUT RESULT

    DTC is output A
    DTC is not output B
    1. B: END.
    2. A: Replace master cylinder solenoid (See  DISASSEMBLY  ).
  3. Check brake pedal and stop light switch installation (See  BRAKE PEDAL  ).

    CHECK:

    1. Check brake pedal height.
    2. Check stop light switch installation.

    OK:

The brake pedal and stop light switch are normal.

    1. NG: Adjust brake pedal and/or stop light switch (See  BRAKE PEDAL  ).
    2. OK: Go to next step.
  4. Measure the voltage of the master cylinder solenoid (skid control ECU STP terminal).

    PREPARATION:

Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S29.

    CHECK:

Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    OK:

SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR S29 TERMINALS VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
S29-7 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14V
S29-7 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 1.5V
    1. NG: Check and replace harness and connector (STP circuit).
    2. OK: Go to next step.
  5. Reconfirm DTC (See  DTC CHECK / CLEAR   ).

    PREPARATION:

    Clear the DTC.

    CHECK:

Check if the same DTC is detected.

    RESULT:

    DTC OUTPUT RESULT

    DTC is output A
    DTC is not output B
    1. B: END.
    2. A: Replace master cylinder solenoid (See  DISASSEMBLY  ).
