Inspection Procedure
HINT:
Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step 3 when not using the hand-held tester.
- Check harness and connector (momentary interruption) (See CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
).
CHECK:
Using the hand-held tester, check for any momentary interruption in the wire harness and connector corresponding to a DTC.
CHECK ITEM REFERENCEItem Measurement Item/Range (Display) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note SPD SEN FR FR speed sensor open detection/OPEN or NORMAL OPEN: Momentary interruption
NORMAL: Normal- SPD SEN FL FL speed sensor open detection/OPEN or NORMAL OPEN: Momentary interruption
NORMAL: Normal- SPD SEN RR RR speed sensor open detection/OPEN or NORMAL OPEN: Momentary interruption
NORMAL: Normal- SPD SEN RL RL speed sensor open detection/OPEN or NORMAL OPEN: Momentary interruption
NORMAL: Normal- OK:
There are no momentary interruptions.
HINT:
Perform the above inspection before removing the sensor and connector.
- NG: Check and replace harness or connector (each speed sensor circuit).
- OK: Go to next step.
- Check output value of speed sensor.
PREPARATION:
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
- Select DATA LIST mode on the hand-held tester.
CHECK:
Check that there is no difference between the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the hand-held tester and the speed value displayed on the speedometer when driving the vehicle.

The speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the hand-held tester is the same as the actual vehicle speed.
- NG: Go to step 4 .
- OK: Go to next step.
- Perform SIGNAL CHECK (TEST MODE) (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE
).
CHECK:
Check if DTCs are detected in test mode.
RESULT:

- A: Go to next step.
- Check sensor installation.
CHECK:
Check speed sensor installation.
OK:
The installation bolt is tightened properly.
Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf)
There is no clearance between the sensor and the front steering knuckle or rear axle carrier.

- NG: Install speed sensor correctly or replace speed sensor (See REMOVAL
and REMOVAL
). NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after replacement (see TEST MODE PROCEDURE ).
- OK: Go to next step.
- NG: Install speed sensor correctly or replace speed sensor (See REMOVAL
and REMOVAL
).
- Check sensor tip.
Front:
PREPARATION:
Remove the front speed sensor (see REMOVAL ).
CHECK:
Check the sensor tip.
OK:
No scratches or foreign matter on the sensor tip.
HINT:
If foreign matter is identified (also on the sensor rotor side), remove it. After reassembling, check the output waveform.
Rear:
PREPARATION:
Remove the rear speed sensor (see REMOVAL ).
CHECK:
Check the sensor tip.
OK:
No scratches or foreign matter on the sensor tip.
- NG: Clean or replace speed sensor. NOTE: Check the speed sensor signal after replacement (see TEST MODE PROCEDURE ).
- OK: Go to next step.
- NG: Clean or replace speed sensor.
- Check for open or short circuit in harness and connector between each speed sensor and master cylinder solenoid.
- NG: Repair or replace harness or connector.
- OK: Go to next step.
- Measure the voltage of the speed sensor.
PREPARATION:
Disconnect speed sensor connectors A6, A7 and A19.
CHECK:
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
