Removal and Installation: Removal

Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
Remove the following components and related parts:
- Drive belt auto-tensioner, drive belt and idler pulley. Refer to "DRIVE BELT AUTO-TENSIONER AND IDLER PULLEY ".
- Generator assembly and bracket. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Thermostat housing and hose. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Oil pan and oil strainer. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Fuel tube and fuel injector assembly. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Intake manifold. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Rocker cover. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Starter. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Knock sensors. Refer to "EXPLODED VIEW ".
- Engine coolant temperature sensor (if necessary).
Remove the crankshaft pulley, front cover, oil pump, and timing chain. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
Remove the camshaft sprockets and camshafts. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
Remove the cylinder head bolts in reverse of order shown below using Tool.

Remove the cylinder heads.
Remove the cylinder head gaskets.
