Removal and Installation: Removal

- Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Remove the following components and related parts:
- Drive belt auto-tensioner, drive belt and idler pulley. Refer to "DRIVE BELT AUTO-TENSIONER AND IDLER PULLEY ".
- Generator assembly and bracket. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Thermostat housing and hose. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Oil pan and oil strainer. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Fuel tube and fuel injector assembly. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Intake manifold. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Rocker cover. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Starter. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Knock sensors. Refer to "EXPLODED VIEW ".
- Engine coolant temperature sensor (if necessary).
- Remove the crankshaft pulley, front cover, oil pump, and timing chain. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Remove the camshaft sprockets and camshafts. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
- Remove the cylinder head bolts in reverse of order shown below using Tool.

- Remove the cylinder heads.
- Remove the cylinder head gaskets.
