Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Toyota Corolla and 2003 Toyota Corolla. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. INSPECT FUSE (STOP) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Remove the STOP fuse from the instrument panel J/B.
    3. Check continuity of the STOP fuse.

      OK: Continuity

    1. NG: REPLACE FUSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the stop lamp switch assy connector.
    2. Check continuity between each terminal of stop lamp switch assy.

      OK: 

      TERMINAL SPECIFICATION

      Stop Lamp Switch Assy Terminal Specification
      Brake pedal depressed (Switch pin free) 1 - 2 Continuity
      Brake pedal depressed (Switch pin free) 3 - 4 No continuity
      Brake pedal released (Switch pin pushed in) 1 - 2 No continuity
      Brake pedal released (Switch pin pushed in) 3 - 4 Continuity

    1. NG: REPLACE STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. INSPECT CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR ASSY 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the cruise control actuator assy connector.
    3. Measure resistance between terminals 3 (L) and 4 (GND) of the cruise control actuator assy.

      OK: 

      Resistance: 34.65 - 42.35 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR ASSY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR ASSY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Check continuity between the terminal 4 (GND) of the cruise control actuator assy and body ground.

      OK: Continuity

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN CRUISE CONTROL ECU ASSY AND CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR ASSY) 
    1. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between cruise control ECU assy and cruise control actuator assy (actuator magnetic clutch) (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: CHECK AND REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL ECU ASSY (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  )
