Front Axle Hub & Wheel Bearing: Removal

- Remove front wheel. Check wheel bearing backlash and deviation (rotational free play). See WHEEL BEARING INSPECTION under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
- Unstake lock nut. Hold drive shaft from turning by applying brakes and remove drive shaft lock nut. Remove brake caliper and disc and support caliper out of way. Remove disc.
- Remove ABS speed sensor and wire harness clamp. Remove brake hose from shock absorber clamp. Remove bolt and 2 nuts on lower control arm and separate from ball joint. Remove nut from front stabilizer bar link assembly.
- Remove cotter pin and nut from tie rod end. Use separator tool to disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle.
- Using a plastic hammer, separate the front drive shaft assembly from the axle hub. Remove 2 nuts and bolts from lower end of shock absorber. Remove steering knuckle and axle hub from vehicle. See Figure.
- Remove cotter pin and nut, and use separator tool to remove lower ball joint from hub assembly. See Fig 1. Remove inner snap ring.
- Mount assembly in vise. Use slide hammer and attaching plate to remove axle hub. See Fig 1. Using SST, remove the inner race of hub bearing from the hub sub-assembly, Special Tool (09950-40011, 09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04010, 09955-04061, 09957-04010, 09958-04011, 09950-60010, 09951-00370). See Fig 1. Remove 3 bolts and remove dust cover.
- Place the inner race of hub bearing on the outer race of hub bearing. Using SST and a press, remove the hub bearing from the steering knuckle, Special Tool (09527-17011, 09950-60010, 09951-00640, 09950-70010, 09951-07100). See Fig 2.
