Inspection Procedure

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the hand-held tester.
    4. Read the value of the brake pedal load sensing switch displayed on the hand-held tester when depressing and releasing the brake pedal.
      VEHICLE CONDITION / TEST DETAILS CHART

      Item Vehicle Condition / Test Details Diagnostic Note
      BRAKE WRN LIGHT Brake load sensing switch / ON or OFF ON: Depressed pedal
      BRAKE WRN LIGHT Brake load sensing switch / ON or OFF Released pedal brake

      OK: 

      CONDITION DISPLAY CHART

      Condition Display
      Depress the brake pedal ON
      Release the brake pedal OFF
    1. OK: Go to step   4 . 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  2. INSPECT BRAKE PEDAL LOAD SENSING SWITCH 
    NOTE: Do not disassemble the brake pedal sub-assy.

    HINT:

    Replace the brake pedal sub-assy when there is a malfunction in the brake pedal load sensing switch.

    1. Disconnect the brake pedal load sensing switch connector B13.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      SPECIFICATION TESTER CONNECTION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B13-2 (FSW+) - B13-1 (GND) Depress brake pedal Approx. 1000 Ω
      B13-2 (FSW+) - B13-1 (GND) Release brake pedal Approx. 213 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE BRAKE PEDAL SUB-ASSY (See  BRAKE CONTROL PEDAL ASSY  ) 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE PEDAL LOAD SENSING SWITCH - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S27 and the brake pedal load sensing switch connector B13.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      SPECIFICATION TESTER CONNECTION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S27-7 (FSW+) - B13-2 (FSW) Below 1 Ω
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      SPECIFICATION TESTER CONNECTION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S27-7 (FSW+) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. CHECK SKID CONTROL ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (STP TERMINAL) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      SPECIFICATION TESTER CONNECTION

      Tester Connection Switch condition Specified Condition
      S27-27 (STP) -Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
      S27-27 (STP) -Body ground Brake pedal released Below 1 V

    1. NG: INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT 
    2. OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  )
