Rear Disc Brake Pads: Installation
NOTE:
DO NOT assemble upper and lower pad support plates in reverse order.
NOTE:
When replacing pads, anti-squeal shims must be replaced.
- Install 4 pad support plates. See Figure.
- Install NEW Pads: See Figure:
- Apply disc brake grease to both sides of each inner anti-squeal shim.
- Install 2 NEW anti-squeal shims on outer pad.
- Install 2 NEW anti-squeal shims on inner pad.
- Install NEW outside pad with pad wear indicator plate facing downward.
- Install NEW inside pad.
- Install Caliper:
- To prevent spillage, draw a small amount of brake fluid from reservoir.
- Using an appropriate tool, slowly push the caliper piston in.
- Rotate Caliper and install bottom brake sliding pin. Tighten pins to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install rear wheel. Tighten lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Depress brake pedal several times to ensure it is touching pads.
- Check brake fluid reservoir level to ensure it is at the MAX line.
NOTE:
The support plates can be used again provided that they have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.
WARNING:
DO NOT twist flexible hose.
CAUTION:
DO NOT wedge dust boot.
