Front Disc Brake Pads: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove front wheel.
  3. Temporarily install disc and tighten lug nuts.
  4. Check pad thickness through caliper inspection hole. See Fig 1. Replace pads if they are not within specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. NOTE: DO NOT disconnect flexible hose from brake caliper.
  6. Rotate Caliper:
    1. Remove the mounting bolt, and disconnect flexible hose from shock absorber.
    2. Remove the bottom side brake caliper bolt and loosen the top side brake caliper bolt. See Fig 2.
    3. Rotate the caliper up and secure it. See Fig 3.
  7. Remove and discard the inner and outer pads with 4 anti-squeal shims. See Fig 4.
  8. Remove the pad wear indicator plate.
  9. Remove 2 pad support plates. See Fig 4.
  10. Check disc thickness and runout. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS . Replace disc if it is not within specifications.
