Inspection Procedure

NOTE:
When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point CALIBRATION
.
- INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (EXI4 TERMINAL VOLTAGE)
- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard:
TESTER CONNECTION, CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition S28-21 (EXI4) -Body ground 4WD control (L4) switch ON (Transfer L4 position) Below 1.5 V S28-21 (EXI4) -Body ground 4WD control (L4) Switch OFF (Any transfer position except L4) 8 to 14 V
- NG: Go to step 4
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- PERFORM TEST MODE (SIGNAL CHECK) (SEE TEST MODE PROCEDURE
)
- Check if test mode (signal check) DTC is detected.
Standard:

- Check if test mode (signal check) DTC is detected.
- RECONFIRM DTC
- Clear the DTC (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Check if the same DTC is detected (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR
).
HINT:
Reinstall the sensors, connectors, etc. and restore the previous vehicle conditions before rechecking for DTCs.

- A: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (SEE OVERHAUL )
- INSPECT FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH (GND TERMINAL CONTINUITY)
- Disconnect the 4WD control (4WD) switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard:
TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION (1 OF 4)Tester Connection Specified Condition F11-4 (GND) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (GND CIRCUIT)
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH
- Check the select high-low system (see INSPECTION ) or the select 2-4 and high-low system (see INSPECTION ).
- NG: REPLACE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU
- Check the select high-low system (see INSPECTION ) or the select 2-4 and high-low system (INSPECTION ).
- NG: REPLACE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH) ( HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
)
- Disconnect the 4WD control ECU connector and 4WD control (L4) switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard:
TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION (2 OF 4)Tester Connection Specified Condition F9-15 (LO) - F11 -2 (LO) Below 1 Ω F9-15 (LO) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU) ( HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
)
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard:
TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION (3 OF 4)Tester Connection Specified Condition S28-21 (EXI4) - F9-24 (L4) Below 1 Ω S28-21 (EXI4) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU AND ECM) (SEE HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
)
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard:
TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION (4 OF 4)Tester Connection Specified Condition S28-21 (EXI4) - E6-13 (L4) Below 1 Ω S28-21 (EXI4) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
