Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point CALIBRATION  .
  1. INSPECT DAC INDICATOR LIGHT 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Ground terminal HDCW of the skid control ECU.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    4. Check that the DAC indicator light comes on.

    OK: 

    DAC indicator light comes on. 

    1. NG: Go to step 2 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU AND COMBINATION METER) ( HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S28-33 (H DCW) - C11 -10 Below 1Ω
      S28-33 (HDCW) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Check the combination meter system (see HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING ).
    1. NG: REPLACE  COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (HDCS TERMINAL) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION, CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION (1 OF 2)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-44 (HDCS) - Body ground DAC switch is pushed in Below 1Ω

    1. NG: go to step 5 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

      REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

  5. INSPECT DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the DAC switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION, CONDITION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION (2 OF 2)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D5-3 - D5-4 Switch is pushed in Below 1Ω
      D5-3 - D5-4 Switch is not pushed in 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPLACE DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU, BODY GROUND AND DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH) ( HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    S28-44 (HDCS) - D5-3 Below 1Ω
    S28-44 (HDCS) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    D5-4 - Body ground Below 1Ω

  1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
  2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
