Section 746 (Seat Belt PRETENSIONER (Rear)): Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LS 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • If the wiring connector of the seat belt pretensioner is disconnected with the ignition switch at ON or ACC, diagnostic trouble codes will be recorded.
  • Never use seat belt pretensioner from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.
  1. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the rear door scuff plate as shown in the illustration.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
  2. REMOVE REAR PART OF REAR DOOR OPENING TRIMS

  3. REMOVE REAR SEAT SIDE GARNISH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the rear seat side garnish.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.

  4. REMOVE ROOF SIDE INNER GARNISH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the clips, then pull the garnish forward to remove it.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the airbag and wire harness.
    2. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
  5. REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION (See  REMOVAL  or  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE REAR SEATBACK ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  or  REMOVAL  )

  7. REMOVE HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LIGHT 
    1. Slide the high-mounted stop light as shown in the illustration to remove it.
    2. Disconnect the connector.

  8. REMOVE REAR SPEAKER GRILLE 

    Using a screwdriver, remove the rear speaker grille.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  9. REMOVE PACKAGE TRAY TRIM PANEL 
    1. Remove the 2 clips.
    2. Remove the rear seat outer belts through the cutout on the package tray trim panel.
    3. Pull the package tray trim panel forward to remove it.
  10. REMOVE ROOM PARTITION TRIM 
  11. REMOVE REAR SEAT OUTER BELT 
    CAUTION: Never disassemble the front seat outer belt.
    NOTE: When removing the retractor of front seat outer belt, take care not to pull the seat belt pretensioner wire harness.
    1. Remove the bolt and floor anchor.

    2. LH: Using a screwdriver, release the connector protector as shown in the illustration.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    3. Disconnect the pretensioner connector as shown in the illustration.
      CAUTION: When removing the seat belt pretensioner, work must be started 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
    4. Remove the bolt and rear seat belt outer belt.
