Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY OBD II SCAN TOOL OR HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Check driver seat belt warning operation.
      1. Connect the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester to DLC3.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester main switch ON.
      3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester.
      4. Check that the driver seat belt warning operation.
    1. NG: CHECK AND REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. READ VALUE OF OBD II SCAN TOOL OR HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Check output value of driver side buckle switch.
      1. Connect the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester to DLC3.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester main switch ON.
      3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester.
      4. Check the driver buckle switch using DATA LIST.
    1. OK: GO TO STEP   5 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. INSPECT FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY LH (BUCKLE SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the connector from seat belt inner belt RH.
    2. Check continuity between terminals 1 and 4 when buckle switch condition is as shown in DRIVERS BUCKLE SWITCH SPECIFICATIONS  table.

    Condition Specified Condition
    ON (Seat Belt Unfastened) Continuity
    OFF (Seat Belt Fastened) No Continuity

    1. NG: REPLACE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY LH 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN BODY ECU AND FRONT SEAT BELT INNER LH) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: CHECK AND REPLACE MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU 
  5. CHECK THAT MALFUNCTION DISAPPEARS WHEN A KNOWN GOOD COMBINATION METER IS INSTALLED 
    1. Check that malfunction disappears when a known good combination meter is installed.
      1. Malfunction does not disappear, proceed to A.
      2. Malfunction disappears, proceed to B.
    1. A: CHECK AND REPLACE MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU 
    2. B: CHECK AND REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
