Parking Brake (Internal Shoe): Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove rear wheel.
    3. NOTE: If disk does not turn freely, turn the shoe adjuster until wheel turns freely.
  3. Place alignment marks on the hub and disc for reinstallation reference. Release parking brake and remove the disc.
  4. Remove shoe return springs.
  5. Remove front shoe adjuster and tension spring:
    1. Disconnect the tension spring from the front shoe.
    2. Slide front shoe out and remove the shoe adjuster.
    3. Remove the shoe strut with the spring.
    4. Remove the shoe hold down spring, spring caps and pin.
  6. Remove rear shoe:
    1. Slide rear shoe out and remove the tension spring.
    2. Remove the shoe hold down spring, spring caps and pin.
    3. Use needle-nose pliers to disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake shoe lever.
