Diagnosis & Repair
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LX 470. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check spark plug and spark. If okay, go to next step. If not okay, go to step 4.
- Check for open and short in harness and connector in IGF and IGT signal circuits between ECM and ignition coil with igniter. Repair as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
- Remove the glove compartment door. Disconnect the ignition coil with the igniter connector. Turn the ignition switch ON. Measure the voltage between terminals IGF1 and IGF2 of the ECM connector and body ground. If voltage is 4.5-5.5 volts, replace ignition coil with igniter. See Fig 1. If voltage is not 4.5-5.5 volts, check and replace ECM.
- Check for open and short in harness and connector in IGT signal circuit between ECM and ignition coil with igniter. Repair as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
- Remove the glove compartment door. Measure the voltage between terminals IGT1-IGT8 of the ECM connector and body ground when the engine is cranked. See Fig 2. If voltage is greater than 0.1 volt and less than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not greater than 0.1 volt and less than 4.5 volts, check and replace ECM.
- Disconnect the ignition coil with the igniter connector. Measure the voltage between terminals IGT1-IGT8 of the ECM connector and body ground when the engine is cranked. See Fig 2. If voltage is more than 0.1 volts and less than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not more than 0.1 volts and less than 4.5 volts, check and replace ECM.
- Disconnect the ignition coil with igniter connector. Measure the voltage between terminal No. 1 of the ignition coil with igniter connector and body ground when the ignition switch is turned to ON and START position. If voltage is 9-14 volts, repair ignition coil with igniter power source circuit. See Fig 3. If not, go to next step.
- Check for open and short in harness and connector between ignition switch and ignition coil with igniter. Replace harness or connector as necessary. If okay, replace ignition coil with igniter.
