Diagnosis & Repair
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LS 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If any other codes (besides DTC P0136 or P0156) are being output, diagnose other DTC as necessary. If no other DTCs are output, go to next step.
- Check for open and short in harness and connector between ECM and heated oxygen sensor. If okay, go to next step. If not, repair as necessary.
- Connect the OBD-II scan tool or hand-held tester to the DLC3. After warming up the engine, race the engine at 2500 RPM for 3 minutes. Read voltage output of the heated oxygen sensor when the engine is suddenly raced. Perform quick racing to 4000 RPM 3 minutes using the accelerator pedal. If heated oxygen sensor output voltage alternates from .4 volts or less to .5 volts or more, check that each connector is properly connected. If voltage does not alternate, replace heated oxygen sensor.
