WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. After confirming DTCs, use hand-held tester or OBD-II scan tool to confirm throttle valve opening percentage, and closed throttle position switch condition. THROTTLE POS means VTA1 signal as well as THROTTLE POS #2 for VTA2 signal. See THROTTLE POS REFERENCE (NORMAL CONDITION)  table.
    THROTTLE POS REFERENCE (NORMAL CONDITION)

Tester Display Accelerator Pedal Released Accelerator Pedal Depressed
THROTTLE POS 8-20 Percent 64-96 Percent
    THROTTLE POS #2 1.5-2.9 Volts 3.5-5.5 Volts
  2. If different DTCs that are related to different systems are output simultaneously while terminal E2 is used as a ground terminal, terminal E2 may be open.
  3. Read freeze frame data using hand-held tester or OBD-II scan tool, as freeze frame data records engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, it is useful to determine whether vehicle was running or stopped, engine was warmed up or not, air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, etc. at time of malfunction.
