Spiral Cable: Removal

Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Remove instrument cluster finish panel. See Figure. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Disconnect spiral cable electrical connector. Release spiral cable retaining claws and remove spiral cable.

WARNING: Damage to spiral cable is possible. Air bag system malfunction may result. Misalignment of spiral cable may cause steering wheel to not turn completely, or flat cable inside spiral cable to be severed. Spiral cable mating marks must be properly aligned prior to installing steering wheel.
