Removal & Installation

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .
- Remove steering wheel. Remove lower steering column cover screws and cover. Disconnect lower spiral cable connector. Position upper steering column cover upward to access spiral cable. Disengage 3 spiral cable retaining claws and remove spiral cable.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Before installing spiral cable, ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Center spiral cable. See SPIRAL CABLE under ADJUSTMENTS. Tighten steering wheel nut and driver-side air bag module screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Check AIR BAG warning light to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
