Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Measure voltage between positive and negative terminals of battery. If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10-14 volts, repair battery or charging system as necessary.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds. Access instrument cluster and disconnect harness connector C11. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and component side of instrument cluster connector C11, terminal No. 5. (circuit SW). See Fig 1. If voltage is less than one volt, replace instrument cluster. If voltage is more than one volt, repair or replace wiring harness between repair or replace instrument cluster or wiring harness between instrument cluster and battery.
