Spiral Cable: Removal

Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE . Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Remove 4 retaining screws and separate spiral cable from combination switch.
WARNING:
Air bag system failure, damage to spiral cable or steering problems are possible. Loss of vehicle control and personal injury may result. Improper installation of spiral cable can cause steering wheel to not turn completely or flat cable inside spiral cable to be severed. Spiral cable mating marks must be properly aligned prior to installing steering wheel.
