Preliminary Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Tundra and 2001 Toyota Tundra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Prior to diagnosing the transfer case electronic control system, ensure fluid level is correct. Ensure engine starts with gearshift lever in Park and Neutral to ensure proper adjustment of park/neutral position switch. Ensure all system-related fuses are okay. Check system wire harnesses for proper routing. Verify all harness and component connections are clean and tight. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If area of fault cannot be located or repaired during preliminary inspection, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS .

After repairs are completed, perform road test to determine if problem has been corrected. See ROAD TEST  under PERFORMANCE TESTS.
