Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Warm the engine to normal operating temperature. Turn the ignition to the OFF position. Connect the scan tool to the DLC3 and turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn ON the scan tool. Select the item SPD (NT) in the DATALIST and monitor its value. Drive the vehicle to converter lock-up speed. The engine RPM should match the input speed (at least 50 RPM). If so, replace ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If not as specified, go to next step.
- Remove input turbine speed sensor from transaxle. See Figure. Measure resistance between speed sensor terminals. Resistance should be 560-680 ohms for AISIN made sensors and 500-620 ohms for Toyota made sensors at 68°F (20°C). If readings are within specification, go to next step. If not, replace the speed sensor (NT).
- Connector the speed sensor connector. Disconnect the ECM connector. Measure the resistance between terminals NT+ and NT-. Resistance should be 560-680 ohms for AISIN made sensors at 68°F (20°C) and 500-620 ohms for TOYOTA made sensors at 68°F (20°C). If readings are within specification, replace the ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If readings are not within specification, replace wiring harness and connector.
