Circuit Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Shifting from 1st to 5th is performed in combination with ON and OFF cycle of shift solenoids SL1, SL2, SL3, S4 and SR. The solenoids are controlled by the ECM. If an open or short circuit occurs in either solenoid, a DTC will set. The ECM controls remaining shift solenoids to allow vehicle to be operated smoothly. This is called Fail Safe Function. See Figure. Possible causes are:
- Open or short in SL1, SL2, SL3, S4 or SR shift solenoid valve circuit.
- Shift solenoid valve malfunction.
- ECM malfunction.
