Pattern Select Switch (TACOMA & 4RUNNER)

- If Toyota scan tool is available, go to next step. If Toyota Scan tool is not available, turn ignition on. Access ECM. See Figure, Figure and Figure . Using DVOM, measure voltage by backprobing between ground and appropriate ECM connector PWR terminal while pressing pattern select switch from PWR to NORM mode. See Figure, Figure and Figure. Voltage should be less than one volt with pattern select switch in NORM mode, and 10-14 volts in PWR mode. If voltage is not as specified, go to step 3. If voltage is as specified, substitute with known good ECM and retest.
- Connect scan tool to DLC3. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Turn scan tool on. Monitor PATTERN SEL SW signal on scan tool. PATTERN SEL SW signal should be ON with pattern select switch depressed, and OFF with pattern select switch released. If PATTERN SEL SW signal is not as specified, go to next step. If PATTERN SEL SW signal is as specified, substitute with known good ECM and retest.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect pattern select switch connector. Check continuity between appropriate pattern select switch connector terminals while pressing pattern select switch from PWR to NORM mode. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 . Continuity should exist with pattern select switch in PWR mode, and not exist in NORM mode. If continuity is not as specified, replace pattern select switch. If continuity is as specified, inspect and repair circuit between battery and pattern select switch, or pattern select switch and ECM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
