Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2002 Lexus LX 470, 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser, and 2001 Lexus LX 470. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure ignition is off. Access ECM by removing glove compartment. See Figure. Disconnect appropriate ECM harness connector. See Figure and Figure . Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ECM harness connector terminal SL and ground. If resistance is 11-15 ohms at 68°F (20°C), replace ECM and retest. If resistance is not within specification, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect solenoid harness connector at transmission. Check continuity between terminal SL of transmission harness connector and SL terminal of ECM harness connector. See Fig 1, Figure and Figure . Go to next step.
  3. If continuity does not exist, check and repair circuit as needed. If continuity exists, measure resistance between transmission connector terminal SL and ground. See Fig 1. If resistance is 11-15 ohms, replace solenoid. If resistance is not as specified, replace transmission wiring harness as needed.
