Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2002 Lexus LX 470, 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser, and 2001 Lexus LX 470. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Check O/D OFF indicator light when O/D main switch is pushed in to ON. It should illuminate. Check O/D OFF indicator light when O/D main switch is pushed again. It should turn OFF. If the light operates as described, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If the switch does not operate as described, go to next step.
- Check the combination meter for proper operation. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If combination meter checks okay, go to next step. If combination meter failed tests, replace the combination meter.
- Disconnect the O/D main switch connector. Check continuity between terminals No. 5 and 10 while pressing the O/D main switch button. It should have continuity. Release the O/D main switch. There should not be continuity. If switch operates as specified, go to next step. If not, replace the O/D main switch.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Check voltage between terminal ODMS of appropriate ECM harness connector and ground when O/D main switch is pushed ON and OFF. See Figure and Figure . When O/D main switch is pressed and held, there should be less than 1.0 volt. When O/D main switch is released, there should be 9-14 volts. If switch is working as specified, replace ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If switch is not working as specified, go to next step.
- Disconnect the appropriate ECM connector. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Check the voltage between ECM terminal ODLP and ground. See Figure and Figure . Voltage should be 9-14 volts. If voltage is as specified, replace ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If voltage is not as specified, check all related wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition or poor grounds.
