Drive Plate (Flywheel) Runout Check

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 22 other vehicles, including the 2005 Lexus SC 430, 2005 Lexus IS 300, 2005 Lexus GS 430, 2005 Lexus GS 300, and 2004 Lexus SC 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Using dial indicator, measure drive plate runout. See Fig 1. If runout exceeds .008" (.20 mm), or if ring gear is damaged, replace drive plate. If installing a NEW drive plate, note position of spacers. Tighten bolts in a crisscross pattern to 61 ft. lbs. (83 N.m) on GS 300 and IS 300 models. On all other models, tighten bolts in a crisscross pattern to 36 ft. lbs. (49 N.m), then tighten each bolt an additional 90 degrees.
