Direct Clutch: Reassembly

- Coat "O" rings with ATF. To complete reassembly, reverse disassembly procedure. Ensure piston return spring snap ring is fully seated and ring ends do not align with claw area on spring retainer of piston return spring.
- With clutch drum open area facing upward, install plates and discs, starting with a plate and then alternating with a disc. Install appropriate number of plates and discs.
- Install flange with flat end facing toward disc. Install snap ring. Place clutch drum on overdrive support. Measure piston stroke with a dial indicator while applying 27-30 psi (1.9-2.1 kg/cm2 ) to piston supply port. See Fig 2.

Flanges are available in thicknesses from .130" (3.30 mm) to .161" (4.10 mm), in .004" (.10 mm) increments. V8 models also have a .165" (4.20 mm) flange available.
