"2" Range Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota Highlander, 2001 Toyota RAV4, and 2001 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Shift to "2" range. Drive with accelerator pedal held constantly at full throttle. Ensure 1-2 upshift points take place and are operating properly. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . If shift points are not as specified, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
NOTE: In "2" range there will be no lock-up to 2nd gear.
  2. While driving in "2" range, 2nd gear, release accelerator pedal and check engine braking effect. If there is no engine braking effect, check for faulty 2nd coast brake, or sticking or binding 2nd coast modulator valve in valve body. Check for abnormal noise and shock at acceleration and deceleration.
