Diagnostic Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the oil pan. See LUBRICATION in appropriate SERVICING article. Disconnect the (SLT) solenoid connector. Measure the solenoid resistance between terminals No. 1 (Orange wire ) and 2 (Green wire) of the solenoid connector. Resistance should be between 5.1-5.5 ohms. Check the solenoid operation. Connect the positive lead with an 8-10 watt bulb to terminal SL1 of the solenoid connector and negative lead to terminal SL2, then check the movement of the valve. When battery positive voltage is applied, the valve should move out. When voltage is removed the valve should move in. See Fig 1. If valve does not operate as defined, replace (SLT) solenoid. If valve operates okay, go to next step.
- Check harness and connector between shift solenoid valve (SLT) and ECM for an open or a shorted condition. If wiring is okay, replace ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
