Circuit Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota Highlander, 2001 Toyota RAV4, and 2001 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Check the shift solenoid (SL1) when DTC P0753 is output, check the shift solenoid valve (SL2) when DTC P0758 is output and check the shift solenoid valve (S4) when DTC P0768 is output.
Shifting from 1st to O/D is performed in combination with ON and OFF cycle of shift solenoids (SL1) and (SL2). Solenoids are controlled by ECM. If an open or short circuit occurs in either solenoid, DTC will set. ECM controls remaining shift solenoids to allow vehicle to operate and ensure smooth transaxle shifting (fail safe mode). See Figure. ECM checks for an open or short circuit when solenoid is energized (duty cycle exceeds 75 percent), and when solenoid is not energized (duty cycle is less than 3 percent). Possible causes are:
- Open or short in solenoid circuit.
- Shift solenoid malfunction in (SL1), (SL2) or (S4).
- ECM malfunction.
