Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect 10-pin transaxle connector, located above PNP switch on side of transaxle. See Figure. Remove transaxle oil pan. See LUBRICATION in appropriate SERVICING article. Disconnect all solenoid connectors at solenoids. See Figure. Remove transaxle wiring harness from transaxle. ATF sensor is part of transaxle internal wiring harness. Submerge ATF temperature sensor in water.
  2. Heat water while measuring ATF temperature sensor resistance between transaxle wiring connector terminals No. 1 and 6. At 77°F (25°C), resistance should be 3.5 k/ohms. At 231°F (110°C), resistance should be 231-263 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace ATF temperature sensor. If resistance is as specified, check and repair wiring harness and connector between ATF temperature sensor and ECM. If wiring harness and connector are okay, replace ECM.
