Vehicle Speed Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota Highlander, 2001 Toyota RAV4, and 2001 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) detects transaxle output shaft RPM. VSS outputs a 4-pulse signal for every revolution of transaxle output shaft. Signal is converted into a more precise rectangular wave form by combination meter. This signal is used to calculate vehicle speed for the speedometer. Signal is then delivered to ECM for cruise control information. See Fig 1.
