Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota Highlander, 2001 Toyota RAV4, and 2001 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the pattern select switch connector (located under gearshift lever bezel). Install an ohmmeter between terminal No. 1 and 2 of switch while pushing the switch ON. Continuity should be present. Release the switch. There should be no continuity. Connect a test light from terminal No. 2 and probe terminal No. 4 of the pattern select switch connector. If the test light illuminates, go to next step. If readings are not as specified, replace switch.
  2. Check harness and connector of the pattern select switch, ECM, pattern select switch body ground. If okay, condition is intermittent. If wiring problem was found, repair as necessary.
