"D" Position Test

NOTE: Transaxle will not upshift to overdrive when coolant temperature is below 140°F (60°C) or vehicle speed is 6 MPH less than the set cruise control speed.
  1. Place gearshift lever in "D" position. Fully depress accelerator pedal. Check 1-2, 2-3, and 3-O/D upshift points. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . Check for shock and slip at upshifts.
  2. With gearshift lever in "D" position in O/D gear with lock-up on. Check for abnormal noise and vibration.
  3. With gearshift lever in "D" position, check kickdown shift points for 2-1, 3-2, O/D-3 shifts. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . Check for abnormal shock and slip at kickdown.
  4. With gearshift lever in "D" position in O/D gear with lock-up on, hold vehicle speed steady at 37 MPH. Lightly depress accelerator pedal. Ensure engine RPM does not change abruptly. Large increase in engine RPM indicates lock-up function is faulty. For lock-up speed specifications, see LOCK-UP SPEED SPECIFICATIONS .
