Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Avalon and 2001 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn the ignition to the OFF position. Access the ECM. See Figure. Disconnect the ECM 17-pin connector E6. Using DVOM, measure the resistance between the ECM harness connector E6 terminal No. 15 and ground. See Figure. If resistance is 11-15 ohms, replace the ECM and retest. If resistance is not 11-15 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect the transaxle harness 6-pin connector E1 (next to PNP switch). Using DVOM, measure the resistance of Green/White wire between the ECM harness connector E6 terminal No. 15 and transaxle harness connector E1 terminal No. 2. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is zero ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than zero ohms, repair open in Green/White wire between ECM and transaxle. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Remove SL solenoid. Using DVOM, measure the resistance between SL solenoid connector terminal and SL solenoid case. If resistance is 11-15 ohms, check and repair internal transaxle harness for open circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is not 11-15 ohms, replace faulty SL solenoid.
