Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LS 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

If there is not the LEXUS hand-held tester, begin with STEP  3.

  1. Check sliding roof pulse plate operation. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the LEXUS hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn ignition switch ON and LEXUS hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the LEXUS hand-held tester.

    CHECK: 

    1. Operate the slide roof as the LEXUS hand-held tester directs.
    2. At this time, check that status (ON/OFF) of pulse plate No.1 and No.2 changes on the LEXUS handheld tester screen as shown in the chart below.
      NOTE: Caution is necessary for a part of body not to be caught in as the jam protection system does not operate during conducting ACTIVE TEST.

      OK:

    1. NG : Replace sliding roof gear assembly with ECU. 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  2. Check sliding roof motor status. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Connect the LEXUS hand-held tester to the DLC3.

    CHECK: 

    1. Enter into ACTIVE TEST mode of LEXUS hand-held tester.
    2. Check that "Sliding Roof" operates as the LEXUS hand-held tester directs.
    3. At this time, check that motor status changes on the screen of LEXUS hand-held tester as the sliding roof switch of the vehicle is turned.

      OK: 

      The motor operates normally. 

    1. NG : Replace sliding roof gear assembly with ECU. 
    2. OK : Go to step   4 . 
  3. Perform forced operation. 

    Holding the CLOSE/UP (OPEN/DOWN) switch pressed inhibits the jam protection function at approx. 10 sec. after starting the reverse operation. If the switch remains pressed any longer, the sliding door starts close operation and it stops when detecting the fully closed position.

    HINT:

    At approx. 10 sec. after starting the reverse operation, it is switched to the forced close (down) operation.

  4. Check sliding roof glass alignment. (Mechanical malfunction) (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ). 
    1. NG : Adjust sliding roof (See  ADJUSTMENT  ). 
    2. OK : Replace sliding roof gear assembly with ECU.
