Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lexus ES 330. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. INSPECT DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY
    1. Remove driver side junction block with connector.
    2. Turn light control switch AUTO.
    3. Measure voltage between terminals CLTB and CLTE of driver side junction block.

      Voltage: 10 to 14V

NG: REPLACE DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY

    OK: Go to next step.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN BODY ECU AND SOLAR SENSOR)
    1. Remove solar sensor with connectors still connected.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Vehicle's surroundings are bright.

HINT: Connect the wire harness side connector to the sensor and inspect wire harness side connector from the back side, as shown.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step.

  3. INSPECT AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR (SOLAR SENSOR)
    1. Connect the connector of the solar sensor.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Cover the solar sensor with a cloth.
    4. Connect the tester's positive lead to terminal TSL of the solar sensor and its negative lead to terminal CLTE. Measure the voltage between terminals.

      Voltage: Below 0.8 V

NOTE: Use the digital tester (electrical tester etc.) for inspection.

When using analog tester, connect the positive lead to terminal CLTE and the negative lead to terminal TSL.

    5. Remove the cloth from the solar sensor and shine light into the solar sensor with an inspection lamp by bringing it within 30 cm (11.8 in.) of the solar sensor.
    6. Connect the tester's positive lead to terminal TSL of the solar sensor and its negative lead to terminal CLTE. Measure the voltage between terminals.

      Voltage: 4.0 to 4.6 V

NOTE: Use an incandescent lamp for inspection.

Use the digital tester (electrical tester etc.) for inspection.

When using analog tester, connect the positive lead to terminal CLTE and the negative lead to terminal TSL.

NG: REPLACE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR

    OK: Go to next step.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(BETWEEN SOLAR SENSOR AND HEATER CONTROL HOUSING SUB-ASSY)

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK: CHECK AND REPLACE HEATER CONTROL HOUSING SUB-ASSY
