Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lexus ES 330. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT: When using the hand-held tester, start inspection step 1 and when not using the hand-held tester, start from step 2.

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON.
    3. Select the items below in the DATA LIST, and read the display on the hand-held tester.

      DATA LIST / ENGINE AND ECT / ALL

    NG: GO TO STEP   6 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  2. INSPECT MAGNET CLUTCH RELAY 
    1. Remove the relay (magnet clutch relay) from engine room R/B.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the figure Fig 3 below.

      Standard

    NG: REPLACE MAGNET CLUTCH RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. INSPECT ECM (ACMG - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the ECM with connectors still connected.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the figure Fig 5 below.

      Standard

    NG: GO TO STEP   6 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  4. INSPECT MAGNET CLUTCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the connector from the magnet clutch ass.
    2. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 and negative (-) lead to terminal body ground, then check that the magnetic clutch assy is engaged.

    NG: REPLACE MAGNET CLUTCH ASSY 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(ECM - MAGNETIC CLUTCH ASSY) 

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (SEE  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE   ) 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR(ECM - A/C AMPLIFIER) 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the figure Fig 9 below.

      Standard

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  7. INSPECT ECM 
    1. Remove the ECM with connectors still connected.
    2. Start the engine and push the A/C switch.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the figure Fig 11 below.

      Standard

    NG: REPLACE A/C AMPLIFIER 

    OK: REPLACE ECM
