Inspection Procedure

  1. Is DTC output? 

    Check DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .

    1. YES:  Repair circuit indicated by output code.
    2. NO:  Go to  2.
  2. Is normal code displayed? 
    1. YES:  Check and replace EMPS ECU. See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE .
    2. NO:  Go to  3.
  3. Does PS warning light go off? 
    1. YES:  Check for open or short circuit in harness and connector between ECU-IG fuse and EMPS ECU. See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE .
    2. NO:  Go to  4.
  4. Check battery positive voltage  .

    PREPARATION:  Start the engine.

    CHECK:  The battery positive voltage.

    OK: Voltage: 9 - 14 V 

    1. NG:  Check and repair charging system.
    2. OK:  Go to  5.
  5. Check operation of PS warning light  .

    PREPARATION 

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect the connector from the EMPS ECU.
    3. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    CHECK:  PS warning light goes OFF.

    1. OK:  Check and replace EMPS ECU. See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE .
    2. NG:  Check for short circuit in harness and connector between multi-information display and EMPS ECU, multi-information display and DLC3. See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE .
