Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Start the inspection from step  1 in case of using the hand-held tester and start from step  2 in case of not using the hand-held tester.
  1. Check output value of the deceleration sensor. 

    Preparation: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the DATALIST mode on the hand-held tester.

    Check:  that the deceleration value of the deceleration sensor displayed on the hand-held tester is changing when tilting the vehicle.

    OK:  Deceleration value must be changing.

    OK:  Check and replace ABS & BA & TRAC & VSC ECU.

    If NG  , go to step  2.

  2. Check deceleration sensor  . See Step 4 - DECELERATION SENSOR CHECK .

    NG:  Replace deceleration sensor.

    If OK  , go to step  3.

  3. Check for open or short circuit in harness and connector between deceleration sensor and ABS & BA & TRAC & VSC ECU  . See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE .

NG:  Repair or replace harness and connector.

OK:  Check and replace ABS & BA & TRAC & VSC ECU.
