Removal (Sienna)

- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Fuel tank must be removed for servicing of fuel pump. Raise and support vehicle. Remove necessary covers for access to fuel tank and fuel filler tube.
- Remove fuel tank drain plug from bottom of fuel tank and drain gasoline into approved container. Once fuel is drained, reinstall and tighten fuel tank drain plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Disconnect necessary hoses for fuel filler tube from fuel tank. Support fuel tank with transmission jack. Remove bolts and fuel tank straps. Slightly lower fuel tank for access to fuel supply line at the fuel pump. Electric fuel pump is located in the fuel tank.
- Ensure area around disconnect fitting on fuel supply line at fuel pump is clean. Pull retaining clip from fuel supply line on top of fuel pump. See Fig 1. Disconnect fuel supply line.
- Disconnect electrical connector from top of fuel pump. This is electrical connector for fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit. Disconnect electrical connector at vapor pressure sensor. See Figure.
- Remove fuel tank. Remove fuel pump retaining plate-to-fuel tank bolts. Remove fuel pump retaining plate, fuel pump assembly and gasket from fuel tank. Use care not to damage fuel filter on bottom of fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit when removing fuel pump.
