Fuel Pump: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota Tundra, 2002 Toyota Tacoma, 2002 Toyota Sienna, 2002 Toyota Sequoia, and 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using NEW gasket, install fuel pump in fuel tank. Tighten fuel pump retaining plate-to-fuel tank bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. CAUTION: DO NOT reuse old retainer when installing fuel line on outlet tube at the fuel pump. Always use a NEW retainer.
  3. Apply light coat of engine oil on tip of outlet tube at fuel pump to allow for ease of disconnect fitting and fuel line installation. Using NEW retainer, install fuel line on outlet tube at fuel pump until "click" sound is heard. DO NOT reuse old retainer. Pull on fuel line to ensure fuel line is properly locked on the fuel pump.
  4. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fuel pump protector cover bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION under FUEL SYSTEMS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - V6 & V8 article.

To install, reverse removal procedure using NEW gasket. Tighten fuel pump retaining plate-to-fuel tank bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure areas are clean before installing fuel supply line at fuel pump and retaining clip is properly installed and fuel supply line cannot be pulled from fuel pump assembly. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION under FUEL SYSTEMS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - V6 & V8 article.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION under FUEL SYSTEMS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - V6 & V8 article.

  1. Using NEW gasket, install fuel pump in fuel tank. Tighten fuel pump retaining plate-to-fuel tank bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Ensure fuel supply line and fuel return line and connections on fuel pump are clean. Install fuel supply line and fuel return line on fuel pump. Install retaining clip on fuel supply line and fuel return line until "click" sound is heard. Lightly pull on retaining clips to ensure retaining clips are properly locked on the fuel pump.
  3. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION under FUEL SYSTEMS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - V6 & V8 article.

  1. Using NEW gasket, install fuel pump in fuel tank. Tighten fuel pump mounting bracket-to-fuel tank bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. CAUTION: DO NOT reuse old retainer when installing fuel supply line on outlet tube at the fuel pump. Always use a NEW retainer.

  5. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fuel tank strap bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  1. Using NEW gasket, install fuel pump in fuel tank. Tighten fuel pump retaining plate-to-fuel tank bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks before installing fuel tank. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION under FUEL SYSTEMS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - V6 & V8 article.
  3. Ensure insulator cushions are installed in proper areas on top of fuel tank before installing fuel tank. See Fig 2. Tighten fuel tank strap bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. On Tacoma, before installing fuel tank, ensure insulator cushions are installed in proper areas on top of fuel tank. See Fig 3. On 4Runner, tighten fuel tank strap bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
